Moonridge is one of Big Bear's most popular areas for vacation home buyers - and for good reason. It has a distinct mountain feel as it is heavily treed and situated on the mountainside of the valleys southern peaks. Moonridge also backs to National Forest offering endless miles of "the great outdoors" just steps away. Although Moonridge offers a mountain living feel, it is also conveniently located just minutes from shopping, the Big Bear Village, and Big Bear Lake.
Homes in Moonridge vary from small cabins built in the early 1900s to sizable, contemporary luxury homes. This varied mix of homes adds to the charm of the Moonridge area giving it a unique yet comfortable feel. Many of the homes in this area are on hillsides offering impressive, scenic views. As one heads upward to the higher elevations of Moonridge, the views become more spectacular and often include west facing panoramas of Big Bear Lake, the golf course, and both Bear Mountain and Snow Summit ski resorts. From the best Moonridge views, one can see clear across the valley to Butler Peak, a picturesque, bouldered mountain top hosting one of the San Bernardino National Forest's three fire-watch towers.
For the active types, there are lots of things to do in Moonridge. Moonridge is centered around Big Bear Mountain Resort, host to one of Big Bear's two ski resorts as well as Big Bear's only golf course. Across from the resort is the Moonridge Animal Park, a rescue zoo catering to a variety of animals, including grizzly bears, mountain lions, bald eagles, and even bison. But for the outdoor enthusiast, perhaps the greatest draw of Moonridge is the surrounding National Forest. The most traveled road through Big Bear's back country, Skyline Drive (a.k.a. 2N10), originates in Moonridge just west of Bear Mountain ski resort. This fire road acts as the trailhead for some of the most popular hiking and mountain biking trails in the entire Big Bear Valley.
