With Big Bear’s ski resorts having opened this week and with the weather decidedly taking a turn for the colder, one would think that interest in lakefront homes would be decreasing. But this year has been quite different in that we have seen a significant increase in buyer activity on the lake.

Here are a few lakefront market statistics comparing sales this year to those of last year:

  • Number of Sales – up 97% to 31 sales
  • Average Price – up 16% to $1,202,011
  • Median Price – up 8.5% to $1,050,000
  • Average Price Per Square Foot – up 1% to $377
  • Median Price Per Square Foot – up 5% to $393
  • Current Lakefront Listings – 23 down from 31 in November 2011
  • Current Lakefronts in Escrow – 6

These sales figures suggest that the long awaited bottom to the real estate market may very well be here. Because of this, lakefront home buyers have not disappeared with the change of seasons as they are looking to take advantage of record low interest rates and are trying to get into the market at what appears to be a good time to do so.

With lakefront home buyer interest continuing to remain strong and with very few lakefront homes currently listed for sale, if you have been considering selling your Big Bear home, now may be an advantageous time to do so!
