Some Important Boating Rules and Regulations on Big Bear Lake

Always check with Big Bear Municipal Water District to confirm that the following rules and regulations are current. The BBMWD is the governing body for Big Bear Lake rules, regulations, and most lake related issues. BBMWD: 909.866.5796

*Maximum boat length is 26 feet.

*Manually propelled boats less than 12 feet must stay inside the 5 mph markers.

*Minimum age to drive a boat more than 15hp is sixteen.

*Ages 12 through 15 may drive if accompanied by someone 18 years or older.

*Maximum lake speed is 35mph. From sunset to 7am, maximum speed is 10mph.

*Children under 12 years old must wear a life vest.

*Personal watercraft must stay at least 100ft away from other boats when driving over 5 mph.

*Waterskiing and wakeboarding is allowed between 7am and sunset.

*All waterskiers and wakeboarders must wear life vests.
